The Book of Boy
by Catherine Gilbert Murdock
My first 2019 Newbery contender read of the summer, and I loved it! The riveting story of a 1350 Middle Ages quest for salvation and meaning set in plaque-ravaged France and Italy; the pace of the story kept me turning the pages right up to the satisfying conclusion. Reminds me a wee bit of "The Inquisitor's Tale" in style if not plot, but "Boy" is even more approachable for younger readers (4th grade+).
